U.S. Bank, its people, and its legacy meant a great deal to the Hailes. They valued their history and partnership with the Bank and the role it played in growing their wealth. It was a multi-generational relationship dating to the 1930s when Carol's father, Cliff Homan, was President and CEO of Peoples Liberty Bank in Covington, Kentucky. When Cliff retired, Ralph assumed leadership of the bank. Under his tenure, Peoples Liberty Bank was acquired in 1988 by First National Bank of Cincinnati, which then became Star Bank, then Firstar, and finally U.S. Bank.
Our U.S. Bank Legacy Initiatives serve to honor that history and partnership through our support of U.S. Bank employees in two ways. We match new and increased contributions of bank employees residing in the Foundation's ten-county funding area to United Way's Annual Campaign. Beginning in 2011, we will also make a contribution to a human services organization in celebration of all community services hours logged by bank employees during the previous year.
